We now understand that the Official name has been announced for COVID-19. The official name for the Disease is: Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) as officially named by WHO (World Health Organization); WHO is responsible for officially naming diseases.

The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) is responsible for naming  viruses;  ICTV announced severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 ( SARS-CoV-2) as the Official Name of the Virus of the disease COVID-19.

Both The WHO and ICTV announced the names of the Disease and Virus on February 11th, 2020. So, in other words, just as HIV is the Virus and AIDS is the Disease that you get from HIV. SARS-CoV-2 is the Virus and COVID-19 is the Disease that you get from SARS-CoV-2.
